Back up your vault

Free: copy the whole ~/.recall/ directory. Pro: export from the cloud API when you want a portable dump.

01Free: copy ~/.recall/

cp -r ~/.recall ~/Desktop/recall-backup# or zip ittar -czf ~/Desktop/recall-backup.tgz -C ~ .recall

That folder is your vault. Soft-capped local files include commands.json (~500), groups.json (~50), templates.json (~50), snippets.json (~50), env.json (~50), and aliases.json (~100). Keep a copy somewhere safe (disk, private git, encrypted drive).

Restore commands later
recall import ~/Desktop/recall-backup/commands.json

02Pro: export from the cloud

recall auth loginrecall export --format json --output backup.json✔ Exported commands to backup.jsonrecall export --format sh --output commands.sh

JSON keeps names and tags. The shell dump is readable if you want to skim it.

Skip duplicates on import

recall import backup.json --skip-duplicates 20 imported 4 skipped 0 failed

Optional weekly copy (Free)

crontab -e
0 9 * * 1 tar -czf ~/recall-backup-$(date +%Y%m%d).tgz -C ~ .recall# every Monday at 9am

Free has no cloud backup. Pro sync keeps a cloud copy in addition to the local folder — see plans.
